50 First Dates (2004)

It’s that time of the week again – to watch a Hollywood film with Chinese subtitles with my mom. She said she wanted something light and funny so I picked 50 First Dates. After Connie and Carla, I was afraid of this comedy being really silly. Thank God it wasn’t! It was actually pretty good!

Neither Adam Sandler nor Drew Barrymore I consider good looking, but they sure have chemistry and are cute together! I like the fact the movie was done in Hawaii (ah, so beautiful! you just want to pack some clothes and go there!) and how the story was so different, fresh, and lovely!

It’s about a girl (Drew Barrymore) who had a car accident on an October 30 day and had a little brain damage to her head which caused her to lose her short term memories. The result? She remembers everything before that October 30 day, but not anything after. So she basically wakes up every day thinking it’s October 31 – her father’s birthday. Every day they do the same thing – celebrate father’s birthday; she wears the same clothes, reads the same newspaper, doesn’t remember anybody she met the day before. So the guy (Adam Sandler) who loves her needs to come up with ways to make her fall in love with him every day. Therefore, there were lots of funny, happy, and heart-warming incidents in their lives. Such as their many many “first kisses”, his video compilation she watches every morning to bring back her memory, and her frantic screaming one morning when she wakes up not recognizing this guy in the same bed with her…. But every time, he was able to make her fall head-over-heals in love with him. They are so meant to be together! (*heart*)
